UNC Charlotte’s New
Center City Building

McCracken Lopez, P.A. is priv­i­leged to be part of the design team for the new Center City Building in Uptown Charlotte. UNC Charlotte hired ar­chi­tectural firms Gantt Hu­berman and Kieran Timberlake to design this icon­ic 12-Story, 143,000 SF building.The new building is currently under construction and sched­uled to open for classes in the Fall of 2011.The new building will better serve working pro­fes­sion­al with access to out­standing graduate ed­ucation, while offering public access to the cafe, art gallery, the 300-seat public au­dito­rium, and the110-seat public lec­ture hall.

The New Center City building is aiming for a LEED Silver Certification through the US Green Building Council. Mechanical and Electrical Systems sustainable design efforts include the design and installation of a 6000-gallon tank Gray Water Reclamation System.The Center City Building has a projected water savings of 2,000,000 gallons per year.

 McCracken Lopez, P.A. has designed 7 gray water reclamation systems and have 4 systems that are now operating.

McCracken & Lopez, P.A. Names Three Vice Presidents

CHARLOTTE, NC - McCracken & Lopez, P.A. is pleased to announce the appointments of three of its top professionals, Anthony Brandon, James Currie, and Kevin Richey, to Vice President.

“Each of these individuals is dedicated and focused on the success of our clients and the projects they work with. They care about our clients, are progressive in their thinking towards industry trends, and have been important contributors to our success,” said Richard McCracken, President of McCracken & Lopez, P.A.

Mr. Brandon joined McCracken & Lopez in 1990, and has designed many of the complex plumbing and fire protection systems associated with the firm’s laboratory, corporate, university, and hospital work. He is leading the company’s gray water reclamation design and research efforts, emphasizing strategies meeting the intent of Green Building design. Mr. Brandon is a Professional Engineer and is LEED Accredited. He is a graduate of Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio.

Mr. Currie, since coming to McCracken & Lopez in 2001, has dedicated his talents to the design of HVAC systems for state-of-the-art research facilities, university buildings, cultural arts, and corporate facilities, among others. Mr. Currie was graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has focused his efforts around the goal of sustainable and high performance design and uses the LEED process wherever feasible. Mr. Currie is a Professional Engineer and has LEED Accreditation.

Mr. Richey, came to McCracken & Lopez in 1998 and has been an important con­trib­utor since that time. He has pro­vided construction-related en­g­i­neering project man­age­ment and building commis­sion­ing for many of our complex projects and major clients. Mr. Richey is also responsible for commis­sion­ing admin­istration and serves our clients who are seeking building systems commis­sion­ing. He is a LEED ac­cred­ited pro­fes­sion­al with consid­erable train­ing for his area of exper­tise, including the commis­sion­ing provider program at the Uni­versity of Wisconsin in Madi­son.
